Healthy Living
When I first decided to start living a healthy life, I did not have the
first clue. My parents hadn't had a particularly healthy lifestyle, and
they had instilled pretty bad values as far as health and fitness go. I
knew that healthy living
had something to do with organic food and
jogging, but that was about all I knew.
Fortunately, I had some good resources to work with. The most important
healthy living resource, of course, is in the Internet. The Internet is
filled with tips on eating right, getting a good workout, staying with
your weight loss goals, and establishing healthy habits. Nonetheless,
it can get a little bit overwhelming when you don't have anyone to
support you. My girlfriend was similarly clueless, and we didn't have a
very good healthy living role model in either of our lives. That is why
we decided to go to a counselor.
It may be strange to some people that healthy living
counselors exists,
but they can be a godsend if you haven't a good idea about how to go
about changing your life. The one we went to was a dietitian, massage
therapist, psychologists, and workout fanatic. Because she has such
diverse experiences, she could really help us out with healthy living.
She would sit down with us, help us write down our own goals and ideas
about what we wanted to accomplish, and then give us strategies. Some
weeks she would give us plenty of tips on healthy recipes, staying with
exercise goals, and persevering in the face of adversity. Other weeks,
we would simply check in with her and chat for a little while. The
important thing was to have someone to talk to us every week.
Most of the healthy
living articles that I had read on my own made it
look easy. Maybe for some people it is easy, but not for me. It really
takes a substantial amount of time and dedication to change the way you
live, and there are a few changes bigger than deciding to live in a
healthy way. Nevertheless, with perseverance, you can make it work.
Over several months, you can lose the weight you need to, start eating
good food, start exercising regularly, and in general make a habit of
living well. It might seem hard at first, but it is worth it.
Establishing good habits will make you live a longer, happier, and
healthier life.
